Remington, IN

2019

For over 100 years, locomotives passing through Remington, Indiana, stopped at a small depot in the center of downtown. Unfortunately, the depot sat vacant and abandoned for decades in the late 20th and early 21st century - that is until the Town of Remington breathed new life into the building by turning the facility into a quaint Community Center, complete with a community room, kitchen, and restrooms. Now the Remington Depot is the showpiece of a complete downtown streetscape project. The bones of the original depot remain, plus the new design honors the building’s history with careful selection of windows, light fixtures, vaulted wood ceiling, and a faux sliding door on the east raised patio that mimics the original loading platform where trains stopped as they passed through Remington.
