Monticello City Hall
Monticello, IN
2022
In 2020, the City of Monticello decided on moving the municipal headquarters from the existing police station building to a new location with the redevelopment of the “Old Fire Department” building located on Washington Street in Monticello, Indiana. The existing building has served many uses throughout the years as the Monticello Fire Station, Police Station, and Town Hall through additions dating back to the original 1904 building. This project was renovated in part to house the new city hall, which includes council chambers, city offices, conference rooms, and utility offices to serve the public’s needs. The project blends historic detailing with a modern twist to create spaces that acknowledge the history while providing a fresh space to usher the city into the future. The existing brick wall in the council chamber was patched and painted white to provide a clean backdrop for the new dynamic curved desk that is echoed with an oval ceiling feature and the flooring. At the entrance, new storefronts and canopies replace the existing garage doors to invite the public within.
