Located on the corner of Ninth Street and E 500 S, Sunrise Christian Reformed Church was designed in 2000, and is one of KJG’s earliest church projects. Positioned at an angle for the optimal view when approaching the church, Sunrise Christian Reformed Church welcomes visitors of all ages. The main lobby for the church is a rotunda with glowing indirect lighting that creates a warm and inviting gathering space, and the gently angled hallways shift the occupant’s perspective, creating a subtle optical illusion. The initial church building was designed for easy expansion, and KJG had the privilege of working with Sunrise Christian Reformed Church again in 2008 to add a gym addition onto the southwest side of the building. The steeple was designed to have colored lighting to shine out at night, serving as a beacon to the community and it was one of the first projects in the office to utilize LED lighting.
